HANNIBAL - Weather permitting, the Champ Clark Bridge on U.S. Route 54 over the Mississippi River in Louisiana will be closed overnight between Monday and Tuesday, April 10 and 11. The bridge will close Monday, April 10, at midnight, and open to traffic on Tuesday, April 11, at 6:00 a.m., MoDOT crews will have the Champ Clark Bridge located on U.S. 54 in Louisiana temporarily closed for routine maintenance.
HANNIBAL – Monday, April 3 through Friday, April 7, the Missouri Department of Transportation and its contractor will have work zones set up on U.S. 54 on either side of the bridge, as well as on Third Street in Louisiana to do some core drilling. There are four locations, and in each area, the highway will be down to one lane throughout each day. “This is one of several things we are trying to accomplish prior to actual work beginning to replace the bridge later this fall,” explained Keith Killen, a professional engineer with MoDOT’s Northeast District and project manager for the new bridge.
The Champ Clark Bridge Team, consisting of Missouri and Illinois Department of Transportation professional engineers, has completed their evaluation of the Statement of Qualifications (SOQs) submitted by potential design-build teams. “These four teams will compete for the contract to oversee the design and construction of a new Champ Clark Bridge on U.S. 54 over the Mississippi River in Louisiana, Missouri,” said Champ Clark Bridge Project Director, Keith Killen.

The Champ Clark Bridge Team will release the Request for Proposals (RFP) on March 1st, 2017. “This means these four teams will receive our formal request to submit their proposals to design and construct the new bridge,” Killen explained.
HANNIBAL – The team working to establish who will help the Missouri and Illinois Departments of Transportation to design and build a new Champ Clark Bridge is making progress. “Since this is a design-build project, we are seeking out industry who may be interested in working on the team, and we’ve held our first meeting with several who have expressed interest,” said MoDOT Project Director Keith Killen, P.E. The Champ Clark Bridge is located on U.S. 54 over the Mississippi River at Louisiana, Missouri.
Last week, about 50 interested contractors, suppliers and consultants attended a meeting at the MoDOT Northeast District office in Hannibal to learn how they can start the process to potentially be selected as part of the design-build team.
The Missouri Department of Transportation, in conjunction with Moberly Area Community College and several recruitment and training facilities, potential consultants and contractors, held a job fair for those interested in developing their skills or using their experience to help design and build a NEW Champ Clark Bridge! HANNIBAL – The Missouri Department of Transportation has set an aggressive goal to have a new Champ Clark Bridge open to traffic by November 1, 2019. “While the timeline is tentative, one of the advantages to using a design-build process to procure and construct a major bridge is the reduction of time when compared with traditional design methods,” explained Champ Clark Bridge Project Director Keith Killen.
HANNIBAL – Pike County, Missouri and Pike County, Illinois will soon be connected with a new bridge over the Mississippi River on U.S. 54 at Louisiana, MO. “A new bridge is much needed, and we are pleased it’s going to happen sooner rather than later,” said MoDOT Northeast District Engineer Paula Gough.
HANNIBAL – The Missouri and Illinois Departments of Transportation are in the final phase of completing the environmental assessment (EA) for a new Champ Clark Bridge on U.S. 54 over the Mississippi River in Louisiana, MO. The public is invited to a public hearing to make final comments on the EA on Thursday, June 9 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Twin Pikes YMCA, 614 Kelly Lane, Louisiana.
HANNIBAL - The U.S. 54 bridge over the Mississippi River in Louisiana, known as the Champ Clark Bridge, will be closed at Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 17 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to conduct the annual full-depth inspection. The bridge will be open for the weekend, then will be closed Monday, June 20 through Friday, June 24 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. "Bridge crews out of Jefferson City will bring what's called the Snooper truck to help perform the inspection of the lower part of the bridge," explained Brian Haeffner, MoDOT area engineer. A lift will be used to allow inspectors to check out the upper parts of the truss.
